Ray Allen shaken up by Boston Marathon bombing
Let’s not forget that Ray Allen played five seasons for the Celtics. The Boston Marathon bombings hit all Americans hard, but for Allen it also hit home. According to the Palm Beach Post Allen has a family friend who ran the race Monday, and is in intensive care after losing her leg. Another close friend owns a restaurant that was managed by Krystle Marie Campbell, who died in the explosion. The friend’s assistant chef lost a leg also.
Per Palm Beach Post
“What’s kind of played over and over in my mind, is how we would have been sitting at the finish line, me and my whole family waiting for my Mom and my wife to cross the finish line,” Allen said. “This year, they would have been running if we would have been in Boston. Standing right there. Sitting in the bleachers.” … “When it happened, I was thinking of all the people I knew that were in the vicinity,” Allen said.
Allen has spoken numerous times of running in the race after he retires. His wife and mother have both run it multiple times already, using it as a platform to raise money for juvenile diabetes, which affects Allen’s son Walker.
