The Los Angeles Lakers lost the game and center Dwight Howard in Memphis last night. Howard’s shoulder become so bothersome that he asked to come out of the game. He will see a specialist in LA today.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With little going right for the Lakers these days, they talked. The Lakers had an air-it-out meeting Wednesday, part of the reason why their morning shootaround lasted for 72 minutes. Normally, the Lakers simply go through walk-throughs pointing out various offensive and defensive sets. Then they conclude it with light shooting. Not this time. “You never want those kind of meetings because we’re in trouble a little bit,” Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said. “Things needed to be said and needed to happen. Now it’s up to us to make something positive out of it.” That didn’t happen. The Lakers’ 106-93 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday marked their third consecutive defeat and seventh in a row on the road. The Lakers (17-25) continue making it harder to climb out of their 12 th-place spot in the Western Conference standings. Dwight Howard aggravated his right shoulder with 2:21 left in the second quarter and didn’t return and finished with only two points on 0-of-4 shooting and two rebounds in 14 minutes. The Lakers will re-evaluate him today on an injury that caused him to miss three games two weeks ago. “It felt real bad,” Howard said as he walked out of the arena. “I tried to play through it. I didn’t want to hurt it any worse.”
