And so the long wait to answer who will be the next Knicks coach may finally be over. After weeks of speculations, Yahoo Sports reports that the Knicks and Fisher have an agreement in place.
Fisher has been offered a five-year $25 million deal as the Knicks may officially seal the deal with a scheduled news conference this Tuesday.
According to ESPN:
The Knicks have scheduled a news conference at 11:30 a.m. ET Tuesday to “make a major announcement.” After the news conference, Jackson will fly overseas Tuesday night for his son’s wedding, while Fisher is expected to attend Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night.
Asked in a group of three reporters about hiring Fisher in the bowels of Madison Square Garden following the Rangers’ Stanley Cup finals game Monday night, Jackson said “Go Fish.”
It is no secret that Knicks President for Basketball Operations Phil Jackson has been pursuing Fisher. After failing to get Steve Kerr, another former Jackson disciple, Fisher became the logical choice. Can Fisher live up to his expectations as a head coach for the embattled Knicks?
