Melvin Ejim of Iowa State fouled out late in the second half against BYU and before taking a seat on the bench, he gave the crowd a one-finger salute to show his appreciation. Iowa State was able to hold off BYU, 90-88, despite losing its two leading scorers Ejim (21 points) and senior guard DeAndre Kane (21 points, ejected). On the heels of the win over Michigan, this is a fantastic road win for the Cyclones, which will certainly come in handy during seeding time for the NCAA tournament. Melvin later apologized for his unnecessary gesture later after the photo of his gesture went viral.

Melvin Ejim apologized after a photo of him flipping off the BYU student section went Internet viral Wednesday night. “I apologize to the BYU student section,” Ejim said. “They found a way to get under my skin. I humbly apologize.” Like most student bodies, BYU students mock players while they walk to the bench after collecting a fifth foul. It happened to Ejim with 1:42 to play, Iowa State leading 86-81. “Melvin lost his mind,” Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said. “I’m disappointed. Melvin is a world class kid. I’m sure he feels terrible.” Ejim tied for the team-high in points with 21 and collected four rebounds.
