Kentucky Sports Radio first broke the story with Coach Cals response about the alleged “Free Throw Switch-a-roo” in Kentucky’s recent Louisville game where Alex Poythress Stepped to the line to shoot free throw for Nerlens Noel. Per KSR, a spokesperson for UK commented on the incident saying the the Wildcat bench thought that Poythress was fouled. Coach Cal also said that if he thought the wrong individual was at the line, he would have removed him.
During his press conference this morning, Calipari addressed “Free Throw Gate,” or the alleged switch-a-roo that took place when Alex Poythress shot what appeared to be Nerlens Noel’s free throws. A UK spokesman has cleared the incident up, saying that the UK bench thought Poythress was fouled and that the ref notified the official scorer that #22 was the shooter, but Cal wanted to weigh in on it as well:
“My daughter called me about that. If I thought the wrong guy was on the line, I’d take the wrong guy off the line.” As for the “Cal cheats!” scandal brewing on the internet this morning? “I wasn’t on the grassy knoll in ’63…I wasn’t even in Dallas.” Haters gonna hate.
More so, Cal said he doesn’t even see the logic behind the alleged switch: “I thought Alex got fouled. Why would I put Alex at the line? He can’t make any shots? I would have had more confidence in Nerlens at that point.”
What do you think?
