Barack Obama Attends UMD vs Oregon State Basketball Game (Photos)

CBS Sports is reporting that on Sunday night Mr. President and the first lady, accompanied by their two daughters, attended the Maryland vs. Oregon State game to support his brother in law’s (Michelle Obama’s brother) Oregon State Beavers. The first family proved to be a good luck charm for the Beavers as they defeated the Terps 90-83. OSU is now 4-0 whenever President Obama is in attendance.

Per CBS Sports:

It was just a week ago that I wrote, “Oregon State capped off an unpredictable opening weekend of college basketball by providing what was probably the worst loss any team endured: a 78-73 home defeat at the hands of Coppin State.” What transpired in College Park on Sunday night can’t reverse, undo or erase the awfulness of that season-opening L for Oregon State, but it is at the very least proving this team has some gumption. The Beavers traveled across the country to face Maryland and came out on top, beating the Terps 90-83 Sunday night. Oregon State is now 2-1. Maryland is 1-2. Most notably, Oregon State coach Craig Robinson won the game in front of his sister and brother-in-law, known to most as Michelle and Barack Obama. Perhaps the First Family should try to attend as many Beavers games as possible; OSU is now 4-0 in games when the Obamas are in the building. Devon Collier came up big-time for OSU, scoring 29 points and snaring 11 rebounds. Collier was suspended from the aforementioned loss against Coppin State a week ago. The other stud? Roberto Nelson, who had a game-high 31 points and hit a dagger of a 3-pointer in the final minute to erase any doubt. In general, Oregon State looked as good on Sunday as it had in recent memory, considering the circumstances. As for Maryland, questions exist, big-time. It didn’t look sharp in its season-opener against UConn. It had to rally after starting of slow against Abilene Christian a few days ago. And now this. The injury to point guard Seth Allen isn’t the only reason the Terrapins aren’t clicking yet, but it’s certainly an obvious factor. Back to the President’s appearance.
