With Oregon’s starting point guard out for the season one must wonder how the ducks will fare for the rest of the season. Artis averaged 10.2 ppg for the ducks so far this season and they have been 6-0 since the christmas. Artis is expected to come back this season but when is the question?
Dominic Artis, who as a freshman has started all 19 games at point guard for the 16th-ranked Ducks (17-2 overall, 6-0 in the Pac-12) and averages 10.2 points and a team-high 3.8 assists, will miss today’s game with a foot injury of undetermined severity, according to a source close to the team.
Altman wasn’t available Friday for comment on the injury, but Artis was observed wearing a protective boot. The injury will put Artis out indefinitely, the source indicated, though he should be able to play again this season.
In the absence of Artis, junior Johnathan Loyd is expected to start at point guard. Loyd has started four times this season, though all with Artis also in the opening lineup, and is averaging 2.8 points and 2.2 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.
