Thanks to The Basketball Channel, the most exciting basketball game in the Metropolitan area for the last decade took place on Saturday night at Trinity University and we all know what summer league reigns supreme throughout the country. On Saturday a line of eager fans stretched from the university parking lot to more than two blocks away to purchase their tickets as the Trinity University basketball gym gradually surpassed its maximum seating capacity of 1500 people before tip-off. As the NBA players came pouring in, the city was in a state of surprise. The crowd’s attention adjusted from the current 16 and under AAU game as their favorite NBA faces steadily breezed into the gym. James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, JaVale McGee, Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, Josh Selby, DeMarcus Cousins, Gary Neal, and Kevin Durant. Then the Goodman’s favorite street ball stars arrived such as D-Nice, Baby Shack, and Deuce. Tonight Nick Young and Mike Beasley couldn’t play because of prior commitments. This event made it a special night for Washington, DC because who knows when this many NBA stars will compete on the same floor again. As the East Coast and West Coast teams filled the locker rooms they cheerfully greeted each other and changed into their Nike jerseys and “Basketball Never Stops” tees, while John Wall laced up his all black Zig Reeboks that he said won’t be released until later this year. James Harden made it clear from the onset that he was here to compete as he told this to ESPN

“I don’t want to hear nothing about that Kevin Durant or Thunder up,” he said. “We’re enemies.”
- James Harden

As tip off began the crowd was immediately propelled to the edge of their seats as Javale McGee crushed an alley oop from Brandon Jennings and a later alley oop that John Wall lobbed to Kevin Durant from a mile away as he finished over his Thunder teammate James Harden. This Saturday the Goodman League team led by Kevin Durant with 44 and John Wall with 28 defeated the Drew League team 135-134. For those that attended were fortunate to witness Brandon Jennings’ spectacular display despite a losing effort or DeMarcus Cousins’ consecutive slams that had the crowd jumping out of their seats! Unfortunately from the Goodman League team Ty Lawson and Ater Mojak both rolled their ankles in the first half and sat out the rest of the game. At the conclusion of the contest Kevin Durant was honored with MVP accolades as a result of his clutch performance and 44 point

collection with the defeat of the Drew Crew. This concluded the most anticipated game of the summer, which led to the locker room as John Wall talked about a rematch and discussed his performance with ESPN. This event definitely lived up to the hype so we’d like to see what The Basketball Channel can pull off next!

”Everybody thinks it’s all about the money,” he said. “It’s not about the money. I just want to play basketball, I love to play basketball.”
- John Wall
